Exactly 21 weeks today. This was my follow up appointment with my regular OBGYN in Cedar Rapids.
Today she checked my weight, blood pressure, urine for protein levels. Everything checked out great. Also Kaiden's heartbeat was at 146 bpm, this was kind of low for him but doctor reassured me things would be fine.
We discussed what the University Hospitals had advised her concerning my pregnancy so this was just a refresher I was receiving from my appointment in January. We discussed that being diagnosed with "Gastroschisis" was the best of the worst news we could have received that day. It is never easy being told your baby is not normal, although at least it's something that can be fixed after birth and they will monitor over the remaining of my pregnancy. She advised me my pregnancy would be normal for approximately another 2 months, she advised me around 28-30 weeks is when my pregnancy would really start to change and impact everyone in our family. She advised me around this time they would really be monitoring Kaiden's heart rate, fetal kicks, fluid levels, contractions (if I am having any) and ultrasound levels. She re-advised me they are hoping I can last until 36 weeks pregnant that would put us to around May 23, 2015. I am looking forward to trying to stay pregnant this long, although with the record of 36-37 week gestational age on Kaiden's siblings, they don't think I will actually last that long.
Our next doctors appointment is February 19, 2015 at the University of Iowa hospitals and clinics. We have our ultrasound update first, followed by NST and then meeting our high risk OB doctor.
