We have made it to 23 weeks! Ekks. This is the day of our next appointment in Iowa City. We didn't really know what to expect besides it would be an all day appointment.
We had to be there by 930. First we did our ultrasound. He looked amazing. His measurements were great, measuring just at what he should be. He didn't measure big, which concerns me a little because all our other children measured bigger then what they were suppose to. The measured the sub chronic hemorrhage and the measurements were about the same as before, this means its not reabsorbing like we had hoped it would, but its also not getting worse which is great news. They weighed him today and he was at 1 lb 3 oz, without the weight of his intestines, which is great he's bigger then 51% of babies at 23 weeks! So his weight is perfect, lets keep it this way. We did get a few images, which I will attach to our photos although he didn't do a decent profile he was curled up with his feet above his forehead.
Next we had almost 2 hours in between our time and our next appointment which was our intake for our HIGH RISK OB. We decided to eat lunch and walk through the hospital and get a feel of where we would be frequently in the months to come. Before we knew it, it was time for us to check back in for the next appointment.
We got back to our location and checked back in, it was only 5 minutes and the intake nurse called us back. We did my blood pressure, weight and height. Then we transferred to another room where we went through the initial OBGYN intake. Family history, stress levels, pregnancy growth, motherhood and pregnancy on what to expect. (It was just a reoccurring thing for us... this is baby 4!) We were in there for over an hour and a half. Then we were given a bunch of information and taken to the OBGYN room.
As we waited for our doctors to come and greet us, they did ask for a urine sample which I provided instantly (seems like a pregnant women always has to pee!) We were in the room for a few moments and a knock was at our door. A nurse came in and explained that she was part of a research program in the hospital for birth defects and other pregnancy research. She asked us if we wanted to be placed into a research program to help find out reasons, cures, or just information for future projects. This meant that they needed Strad, myself and baby to be in the study. We greatly agreed to this. This means that Strad would get one tube of blood drawn that day in the office, that I would provided urine or blood samples every time the hospital needed it from me and they would just take additional for the research. Then they would take cord blood from our baby as well as a sample of the placenta after delivery.
Then we were interrupted by the Doctor and student aid for the day. We briefly went over my ultrasound results, we discussed the diagnosis, we discussed my medical records a little bit and discussed how my previous pregnancy's went. After a 25 minute discussion, she left the room with the student and advised us she was going to discuss a few things with the whole high risk team and they would be back.
At this time, the previous research nurse came in and we signed our documents to agree to be in the program and she took Strad's blood. Before we knew it the high risk team was back and we were going over a lot of questions, or concerns any of us would have.
We discussed: vaginal birth (which we all agreed we want to do! yay!), we then discussed the possibilities of me taking what they call progesterone to prevent early labor, due to me having 2 babies at 36 weeks. They said it was not a necessary but it is an option for us. Just being due to the fact that I haven't went into labor to early I don't think I will do it. I think I will just continue to let my pregnancy be what it is suppose to be. Then we discussed any complications that could become present such as fluid level, stress levels, the baby not growth, etc.. Then we talked about delivery and we decided that by 37 weeks if I had not had Kaiden on my own they would induce me Friday, May 29, 2015. We also made the mutual decision that I would no longer see my OBGYN in Cedar Rapids and I would solely be seen at the University from there on out. Also that we needed to start doing our kick tests, and that we only had one more monthly then we are to be seen every 2 weeks after that, until 32/34 weeks then weekly!
We have our PCC appointment scheduled for March 23 (this is again an ultrasound followed by a team meeting of the high risk doctors, surgery team, social services and tours of the hospital and nicu. We will be discussing more of the whole scene at the birth and what to expect after the birth of Kaiden), and then my 28 week appointment was scheduled for March 26, we will be seeing the high risk doctors this day again as well as discussing my ultrasound from Monday and then we have our diabetic testing and blood work this day as well.
